Book Week Art Competition: Symphony of Stories

Tune In to Synaesthesia
How does reading your favourite book make you feel? Maybe it’s soft and pastel; like a gentle hug from someone you love. Maybe it’s bright and polka dotty; full of action and adventure? Synaesthesia is one type of sensory information being experienced through another sense, like seeing triangles when you hear saxophone music, or tasting ice-cream when you read the word Wednesday.

For Children’s Book Week 2026 we are inviting children aged 3 years and above to Tune In to Synaesthesia, and interpret the feeling of reading their favourite book into an abstract artwork. Artworks can be made of any medium you like; paint, drawing, collage… Whatever helps you express a symphony of sensations on the page. Then put those feelings into words and tell us a bit about the image you have created and how it is connected to your favourite book.
Submissions need to be returned to the library by midnight Sunday 30 August 2026. Please read all the Terms and Conditions carefully before entering.
