Membership
- Read the Library Use and Membership Policy (this policy is also available in an Easy Read version).
- Fill in the membership form online.
For children under 16 guarantors must fill in the guarantor details. - Remember your password and temporary borrower ID (beginning with ‘WEB’).
This will give you immediate access to our catalogue and some of our best eLibrary resources. - Visit one of our libraries to finalise your membership. Please see membership requirements for what to bring.
Yes. All NSW residents can join Georges River Libraries. You just need to show ID with your NSW address on it.
My library account
My library account
Your library PIN is the same as your library password. Some of our eResource providers call it a PIN and some call it a password. If one of our eResources is asking for your library PIN, you will just need to enter your library password.
- Click login on the library website.
- Then click Forgot your Password?
- You will need to enter your Borrower ID (the barcode number on your library card) and surname. Once submitted, you will receive an email with further instructions.
If you do not have an email address attached to your library account, call Georges River Libraries for assistance.
- Login to your library account online.
- Click ‘Personal details’ from the left-hand menu. This page lets you edit details like your address, contact number, email address, and library password.
If you would like to edit any other personal details, you may need to visit one of our library locations in person and provide photo identification.
Once you have logged into your library account online, you can check on your current loans.
To do this:
- Click on your name in the top-right corner of the library website.
- Click ‘Dashboard’ from the dropdown menu.
- Click ‘Current loans’ from the left-hand menu. This will show you the due dates for all outstanding items on your account.
Your library membership registration will expire every three years. To renew your registration, you will need to visit one of our library locations and provide photo identification. If you require further assistance, please contact us by phone (02) 9330 6111 or email library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.
If you would like to cancel your library membership, you will need to:
- login to your library account online.
- Click on your name in the top-right corner of the library website and then click ‘Dashboard’.
- Click ‘Cancel my membership’ from the left-hand menu.
- Next, select one of the two options and enter your password:
- Cancel my membership. This will deactivate your membership. OR
- Cancel and permanently forget my membership. If you select this option, you will no longer be able to access your account. This cannot be undone if you decide to join in future.
If you cannot cancel your membership there will be a reason given, such as, you have current loans or outstanding charges owing. This will need to be resolved before you can cancel your membership.
If you lose your library card or it is stolen, you can report it to library staff either by phone (02) 9330 6111 or email library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.
Once reported, staff will check if your card was handed in to the library. If your card cannot be located, staff will place a block on your card so no one else can use it.
If your library card needs to be replaced, you will be charged with the cost of replacement. To receive a new library card, you will need to visit one of our library locations in person and provide photo identification. Charges relating to lost library cards are part of Georges River Council Fees and Charges and can be found on the Council's website.

Yes, you can! eBooks and eAudiobooks will appear in the search results when you search the catalogue. We subscribe to three platforms that all have free apps: BorrowBox, indyreads and Libby. Find them here.
You can also access a wide range of online learning resources including children's stories, online courses, IELTS and learning English resources, subject databases, and encyclopaedias. Check out the eLibrary page for the full list.

You can borrow a total of 50 physical items from our collection.
This includes special collections such as the Library of Things, Digital Tools, Musical Instruments and Quick Reads which have the following borrowing limits:
- Library of Things – 10 items
- Digital Tools – 2 items
- Musical Instruments – 3 items
- Quick Reads – 5 items
Additionally, you can borrow the following amounts from our online collections:
You can borrow most library items for 21 days. You can renew items twice. If your items are not returned by the due date, we will automatically try to renew them for you.
Items will not renew if:
- it has already been renewed twice or
- someone else has requested it.

You will need to bring one of the following to borrow:
- Your library card; OR
- Your digital library card (You can store your library membership on your smartphone using the Spydus Mobile app); OR
- NSW driver’s license or NSW photo card; OR
- Two forms of alternative identification. This includes:
- Passport
- Medicare card
- Student card
- Concession card
- Centrelink card
- Department of Veteran's Affairs card
- Credit or debit card

If you cannot find the item you are looking for in our collection, we may obtain it for you using our Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service. If you think the item you are looking for would be useful to have in the Library, you can make a Request for purchase instead.
We make our decisions based on the Collection Development Policy (this policy is also available in an Easy Read version).

Return
You can return your books, DVDs, CDs and magazines to any of our library locations via our 24-hour returns chutes. Please return Library of Things, Musical Instruments and Digital Tool Library items in person during our business hours.
Items that are not returned after 10 days will be assumed lost and the replacement and processing costs will be charged to your account. You will have another 30 days to return the item or pay the replacement costs before the outstanding charges are referred to Council’s debt recovery process. Charges relating to overdue Library items are part of Georges River Council Fees and Charges and can be found on the Council's website. You can renew your items and securely manage your library account online at our website or with the Spydus Mobile app.
If you know that you have lost a library item, you can report it to library staff either by phone (02) 9330 6111 or email library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.

If you have damaged a library item, you must report it to library staff either by phone (02) 9330 6111 or email library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.
Once reported, the replacement and processing costs will be charged to your account.
If an item you wish to borrow has existing damage, please report to staff before borrowing. This ensures that you will not be charged the replacement and processing costs for the existing damage. If you do not report the damage prior to borrowing the item, you may still be charged.

You will need to report library account issues to library staff if via email library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.
Once reported, library staff will look for the item and if found, will remove the item from your account. We also encourage you to look for the item at home and return it if found.
If the item cannot be found by library staff, or found by you at home, you will be charged the cost of processing and replacement.
If you are certain that you returned or never borrowed your item(s), you will need to provide a Statutory Declaration to have the charges waived. Your signed and witnessed Statutory Declaration can be emailed to library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.

This Eighth Schedule Statutory Declaration must include:
- Your full name
- Your library card number
- Title of the items
- Date and time of return
- Location of return
- Area of return e.g. after hours chute

If you have charges owing on your library account, you can pay either online or in person.
To pay online, follow these steps:
- Login to your library account online.
- Click on your name in the top-right corner of the library website and then click ‘Dashboard’.
- Click ‘Fines & Charges’.
- You can now view your outstanding charges. Select ‘Pay Online’ (located at the top left of the results).
- Ensure the Payment Amount is correct and click ‘Pay’.
- A pop-up window will appear. Enter your Payment Details and click ‘Continue’.
To pay in person, visit one of our library locations and bring your library card with you.
Cash payments must be in exact change.
Children must never be left in the library alone. Children aged 10 years or under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
You do not need to be a member to use the library printing facilities or the public computers.
Our public computers have a timed one-hour session for all library users.

Yes, you are allowed to bring food and drink into the library. Food and drinks must be kept away from the computers and library collection, including the Media Lab and Sound Booth.
